Mehfil Nights revives the centuries-old South Asian tradition of ‘Mehfil’ -
an intimate gathering where music, dance, poetry, and stories are shared in close connection.
We support artists in developing new work in a modernized format, and invite communities to listen, reflect, and carry South Asian cultural traditions across generations.

Revolutionize a world where South Asian cultural performing arts are not a niche. We picture a ‘Mehfil home’ in every city, a place anyone can walk into and feel they belong. We aspire to shift the broader culture toward one that respects and supports artists for the work they do.
Every Mehfil is built around the artists. We ensure that we give artists our resources and time, program seriously, and treat each person's craft with care.
Women remain underrepresented in South Asian performing arts; we aim for at least one-third women in every lineup. We feature a new South Asian artist on every Mehfil stage whenever we can.
Our audiences come to a Mehfil to feel something. To remember home, hear a story they recognize, and sing along with strangers. Every detail of how we produce a show exists to honor that.
The Mehfil community is bigger than us. We support other South Asian arts organizations doing quality work. We back local South Asian businesses such as Chai Sutra, which started their journeys serving at Mehfil.
Every program we build is with ADA accessibility in mind and is racially inclusive by design. Our audiences & artists carry many languages & our programming is made to hold all.
We offer a variety of programs and services to support mental health, including counseling, support groups, and educational workshops.
We build with people who care. Volunteers, partners, vendors, and family are why Mehfil works. We protect their time, listen to their voices, and grow together.
This is our internal mantra. It applies to every artist, audience member, venue, partner, and neighborhood we work with.
